Meet Our Physicians

Ronald A. Fischman, MD, FACP, FASN
Ronald A. Fischman, MD is originally from Great Neck, New York and received his undergraduate degree in chemistry from Columbia University. He went on to receive his Doctor of Medicine at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York in 1974. He completed this Nephrology training at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center in 1979.

After completing his Nephrology training, Dr. Fischman moved to Southern California and has since provided leadership in the nephrology and dialysis communities. His early roles included hemodialysis directorships in both inpatient and outpatient programs and having served on the clinical faculty at Harbor UCLA. Along the way in addition to becoming Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Nephrology, he has been elected to Fellowship in both the American College of Physicians and the American Society of Nephrology.

Dr. Fischman is established as a proven leader in all aspects of healthcare services.  His broad experience at all levels of the healthcare spectrum reflects his long standing intense interest and commitment to the wellbeing of the communities in which he practices.

Dr. Fischman has served on many committees dating back to 1980. He has served as Chief of Staff and served on the Governing Board of Lakewood Regional Medical Center, has served as chairman and member of a variety of committees at numerous hospitals and hospital systems including the Memorial Care Health System, and the PIH-Downey, and is serving as a senior medical director at multiple local dialysis facilities for both DaVita Healthcare Partners and Fresenius Medical Care. In addition he has founded several independent physician organizations and serves as a consultant and advisor to numerous medical groups in Southern California.

Dr. Fischman has formulated our Quality Assessment Program with an emphasis on quality of care, comprehensive services, patient education, quality of life, and patient satisfaction. His aim is to create the best Nephrology Group Practice in Southern California.

Dr. Fischman enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, and playing golf.

Avedik Semerjian, MD, FACP, FASN

Dr. Avedik Semerjian earned his Doctor of Medicine Degree in 1982 at Damascus University School of Medicine in Syria. Having moved to the United States in 1983 he completed his Internal Medicine Residency in Woodhull Medical and Mental Health Center in Brooklyn, New York in 1987. He completed his Nephrology Fellowship in 1989 at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, and soon afterwards moved to Southern California.

Dr. Semerjian began working with Dr. Fischman in 1989, and in 1999 he became a partner in co-founding Southland Renal Medical Group. Since then, Dr. Semerjian has developed many of our CKD programs, overseeing the implementation of various clinical pathways and the establishing of proper disease management protocols. Dr. Semerjian currently serves as Medical Director at Fresenius Medical Care, Long Beach Dialysis Unit, DaVita Los Alamitos, and Chief of Nephrology at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center.

Dr. Semerjian is particularly interested in treating patients with Chronic Kidney Disease. His main focus is managing patient’s disease processes by treating the underlying causes and the associated co-morbidities, and delaying the onset of End Stage Renal Disease.

Dr. Semerjian‘s other interest is treating patients with End Stage Renal Disease. He is very involved in the management of his dialysis patients.
Dr. Semerjian, with his very close interaction with the dialysis unit’s social workers and dietitians, is able to help his patients become healthier and survive longer with dialysis treatments.

In his spare time he likes to read about the newest developments in Nephrology to help him stay updated in his field. He is an avid runner, and enjoys listening to classic and Latin Jazz music, especially during his long runs. Dr. Semerjian is multi-lingual, speaking Armenian, English Arabic, and Spanish.
